Freedom Chickens (2 sizes)

The story goes that around ten years ago a famous French designer went on holiday to Southern Africa and spotted these 'freedom' chickens on the road side. Smitten by them, he ordered 1000 pieces to line the catwalk on one of his Parisian fashion shows.

We are not sure if the chickens ever arrived in Paris but, nevertheless, we found the maker and now support this talented group of township artisans.

Freedom chickens (and their distant cousins, the elephants) are made from recycled bags or factory over-runs and colours vary depending on what was used.

Chickens are about 20cm tall (large) or 14cm (small). We have watched closely but none of ours has yet laid an egg.
